Early Years Professional Status - Raising the Quality
The Government's vision is: "highly skilled practitioners delivering excellent play-based learning adapted to the development needs of each individual child."
In Staffordshire, we are working to realise that vision and encourage enthusiastic people into the workforce.
Early Years Professional Status (EYPS)
We all want the best for our children, but did you know that 90% of a child's brain connections will be made by the time they are five? That means that their development and learning from birth to the age of five has a significant influence on their future lives.
That's why we need the best people to help them develop, and in recognition of this we now have the Early Years Professional Status (EYPS). Working in childcare is rapidly becoming a highly professionalised sector.
By 2015 all full-time provision will need to have a graduate leader (holding the EYPS) in place to lead children's learning. For Children's Centres who offer childcare, this date was the end of 2010.
Working with children can be extremely rewarding, helping them to develop and grow in confidence. It requires enthusiasm, skill and motivation. It is increasingly recognised that raising the quality of the childcare workforce will help ensure all children receive a good start in life and help children to achieve their true potential.
What does this mean for Employers?
Managers and owners of settings play a vital role in ensuring a high level of quality is maintained in their settings and having an EYP in your setting can enhance this. Having a graduate with a deep understanding of the individual learning needs of children that can focus on the delivery of the Early Years Foundation Stage assists managers/owners to ensure enhancement of both the quality of delivery and the individual child's experience.
