For Practitioners seeking information about Evidence-based Parenting Programmes (EBPP)

Picture of a family
  • All recommended programmes have been developed by professionals and have been proved through rigorous evaluations to improve parenting skills and family relationships
  • Where possible, practitioners from different organisations and disciplines work together, and levels of experience and academic qualification will vary.  However, they will all have received extensive training from the programmes' dedicated facilitators and will have been accredited
  • Programme guidelines are adhered to closely so it is important that parents stay the course to get real benefit
  • Although Staffordshire has trained practitioners in a variety of EBPP, delivery is not yet consistent across the county; certain programmes may not be available in all districts so it may be necessary to signpost parents to second choice programmes to avoid waiting or travelling long distances
  • Parents who self-refer have already shown enough motivation to benefit from any one of the courses though  Mellow Parenting is unlikely to be appropriate.
  • Practitioners who are struggling to engage parents should consider the Changes Parenting Programme which is a gentle introduction to enhancing parenting skills.
  • As a general rule, referrals are prioritised by group facilitators
  • More details of courses are available on the individual programme websites

There are different types of courses available in the county. View the EBPP Overview|

There is also information for families||| which parents/carers can access.
