Childminding Training and Support
Diploma in Home Based Care to be available Autumn 2007
This is a new qualification for childminders. It consists of 5 modules, the first module being the ICP (Introduction to Childcare Practice (home-based). This will be similar to the current ICP, but with a broader scope to cover the work of nannies and other home-based childcarers as well as registered childminders. There may be childminders who hold the ICP and would now like to continue to complete the other 4 modules to complete a level 3 qualification in childminding.
The additional four modules are;
- Childcare and Child Development 0 - 16 in the home-based setting
- The childcare practitioner in the home-based setting
- Working in partnership with parents in the home-based setting
- Meeting children's individual learning needs in the home-based setting.
(Each of the four modules consist of 30 guided learning hours)
We encourage all childminders to hold a Level 3 qualification by the year 2010. We will support childminders to achieve this and even continue to Foundation Degree. Funding may be available through Early Years.
