Staffordshire Catering Service has high quality standards at all stages of its buying process. Working in partnership with Health and Consumer Services we ensure that before any ingredient or product is approved for use that:
- Food colouring and additives are kept to a minimum.
- Mechanically recovered meat is not used.
- Food is tested for taste and texture.
- Health and Consumer Service scientifically analyse the content of the products to ensure compliance with labelling regulations.
Suppliers are encouraged to support local producers. In particular fruit and vegetable contractors are asked to buy local product if the quality and price is acceptable.
As well as providing the main meal of the day many schools also offer a healthy breakfast and mid morning break service.
