Price of School Meals to Rise

Pressure of rising costs of fuel and food bills forces price rise

From September 2008 charges for school meals in primary, special and middle schools will rise 10p to £1.85 and in highs/colleges the standard charge for  Meal Deal Options will rise to £1.95 (free school meal allowance).

Staffordshire Catering Service has absorbed the majority of the costs of job evaluation but the continuing pressure of rising fuel and food bills has forced a 5.72% increase in the cost of a school meal.

In primary schools for £1.85 young children will be offered a choice of either two "hot" or two "lighter" options + vegetables/salad + potatoes/rice/bread + a choice of three desserts + a drink.

In high schools young people can choose from the options menu - set meals for £1.95 which includes a main + vegetables + potatoes + dessert.   Individually priced items are also available.

All menus are nutritionally balanced using WISP software to ensure that each and every day there is a balanced choice available.
