Description of Courses

Recreational Learning 

Staffordshire Adult and Community Learning Service fund Providers including Colleges Countywide within Staffordshire to deliver Adult and Community Learning courses. The types of courses on offer include Sculpture, Photography, Languages, Creative Jewellery Making, Dressmaking, Family History, Belly Dancing, Flower Arranging, Yoga and lots more. 

ICT

Staffordshire Adult and Community Learning Service and Staffordshire Library and Information Service offer computer classes for the complete beginner.  Classes are also held in some community venues.

MORE IT Internet, including using the internet interactively, emailing with attachments, shopping on line.

MORE IT Office including using Office Software, Word Processing, Spreadsheets, Posters and Presentations.

Digital Photo Management including, transferring photos to a computer, managing your photos to a computer, backing up, sharing and enhancing photos.

Get to Grips with English/Maths

Our courses are run by friendly, approachable tutors who will support your learning and provide information and advice to help you to reach your learning goals.  The courses run over 12 hours in a community venue in your area.  You will have the opportunity to improve your spelling, grammar and punctuation, reading and writing.  There is a separate course for maths which will improve your confidence in maths and use maths in a range of real-life situations.  You will also visit a local college with your tutor to access further learning opportunities and gain a certificate of achievement.

Employability

Our courses are run by friendly, approachable tutors who will support your learning and provide information and advice to help you to reach your learning goals.  The course runs over 14 hours in a community venue in your area.  You will have the opportunity to improve your job searching techniques, create or update your CV, get hints and tips on how to complete applications forms and brush up on your communication and interview skills.  You will also study a Level 1 Qualification in Personal Development.

NOCN Level 1 Developing your Personal Development Skills

Our courses are run by friendly, approachable tutors who will support your learning and provide information and advice to help you to reach your learning goals.  The course runs over 12 hours in a community venue in your area.  You will reflect on your current life situation and your career options and produce an action plan to support your development.  You will identify the skills you have and areas for development.  You will participate in group activities and make positive choices to support your development further.

GO4IT!

Our courses are run by friendly, approachable tutors who will support your learning and provide information and advice to help you to reach your learning goals.  The course runs over 10 hours in a community venue in your area.  You will develop your confidence and self-esteem through group work and team activities.  You will improve your communication and have clear progression paths ways to further learning in your community.  You will gain a certificate in achievement.

Beginners ESOL

Our courses are run by friendly, approachable tutors who will support your learning and provide information and advice to help you to reach your learning goals.  The course runs over 20 hours in a community venue in your area.  You will improve your speaking, listening, reading and writing and receive a certificate of achievement.

Formal First Steps

Formal First Steps are short courses for adults who have few or no qualifications and who have been away from formal learning for a long time.  The aim of these courses is to build up your confidence, to assess the skills and experience you already have and to plan your next steps with you.   These courses are a first step to prepare you and in a range of subjects and may last for 10 or 20 hours.  These courses are a first step to prepare you and to give you the confidence to progress to a longer course, volunteering or employment.

Adults with Learning Difficulties/and or Disabilities

For adults who have learning difficulties and/or dsabilities, we have a range of courses which you could join.  Depending on the severity of your disability or learning difficulty, you could join any of the courses listed under PCDL or Formal First Steps and request additional support which will be provided to help you with your learning.  Alternatively, you may wish to join a course which is designed to meet the specific needs of adults with learning difficulties and/or disabilities.  These are listed under the heading of ALDD and cover a range of subjects.

Family Learning 

Family Learning is a fun and creative way of learning with your children.  Family Literacy Language and Numeracy (FLLN) programmes will give you the opportunity to find out how things are taught in your child's school, as well as giving you a chance to share ideas with other parents and develop your own skills.  Our FLLN programmes also offer opportunities for you to gain a qualification in English and Maths.  You can access FLLN programmes in schools or Children's Centres.

Wider Family Learning (WFL) will provide you with opportunities to have family fun as well as exploring ways in which you can support your own children's learning and development.  You and your children can choose from a wide range of programmes such as Mellow Parenting, Chatterbooks or Story Sacks.  Wider Family Learning is delivered in a range of venues including Libraries, Children's Centres and Schools.
