Community Learning Fund

Overview and what can be funded

Grants for Community Learning is supported by:

  • The Skills Funding Agency
  • Staffordshire County Council
  • Stoke-on-Trent City Council
  • Staffordshire SCIO

Funding is available for community and voluntary organisations to deliver:

  • Preparation and pre-engagement activities for work, volunteering and further learning.  For example: confidence building, improving self esteem with informal adult learning, ICT courses, literacy, numeracy, first aid, manual handling, food hygiene, healthy living.
  • Opportunities designed to encourage skills to help individuals to successfully take part in the Big Society.  For example: neighbourhood, civil renewal, community leadership or champion projects.
  • Opportunities designed to encourage innovative, accessible learning in local communities to attract excluded and under-represented groups into learning, including working with target groups to develop meaningful and engaging learning contexts.

The fund may be used for:

  • Tutor and support workers costs
  • Venue and equipment hire
  • Childcare costs
  • Learner travel costs
  • Materials and stationery

The fund may also be used to offer training courses to community tutors to achieve a teaching qualification.
