How the Grants for Community Learning has helped others
Since September 2006 nearly £67000 worth of funding has helped local groups to develop and provide learning opportunities in their local community. Over 600 learners have benefitted.
- In Burton and Stafford minority ethnic communities have recently benefited from courses in English for Speakers of Other Languages (ESOL).
- Homeless young people have embarked on a DIY programme which incorporated Maths and English.
- The Salvation Army encouraged new learners into learning by offering courses in Food Hygiene and First Aid.
"I have met with learners who have explained to me how they have benefited tremendously from the funding and have felt a tangible difference in their lives in terms of quality of life and increased job prospects" said Julie Staniforth the GLC Co-ordinator.
