Useful Questions to Ask When Visiting a School

• Does the school have a specialism?
  
  
• How big are the classes/how many students are in each class?
  
  
• How often do the pupils change class or move around the school?
  
  
• Are pupils streamed by ability?
  
  
• What facilities does the school have for:
  • Sport
  • Learning a musical instrument
  • Information Technology
  • SEN provisions
    
    
• What clubs are there after school?
  
  
• Is there a homework club?
  
  
• How does the school deal with bullying?
  
  
• How often are reports sent home?
  
  
• What provision is there for parents to discuss progress/problems with subject teachers?
  
  
• How does the school actively involve parents?
  
  
• Where can you purchase the school uniform?
  
  
• What school trips are there for each year group?
  
  
• Is there any assistance for low income families with the cost of school trips or uniform?
  
  
• What are the catering provisions for school meals: hot & cold meals, breakfast, vending machines, healthy school meals

This is not an exhaustive list so you can ask as much or as little as you like, but do ask.
