Admissions Process
How to apply
- Applications can be made online, by telephone or by completing an application form
- A Secondary Information for Parents booklet is available for guidance. This can be requested from the School Admissions Team by telephoning 01785 278593. Alternatively the booklet can be found online at: www.staffordshire.gov.uk/education/admissions/booklets
- When making your application please remember to provide any additional information that may be requested. This may particularly apply to foundation, trust and voluntary aided schools who may require evidence of baptism
Admissions criteria (community schools)
If the number of applications for school places exceeds the number of places available, places are allocated in the following order:
- Children in care
- Pupils living within the catchment area of the school
- Pupils with siblings in attendance at the school
- Medical/social reasons (exceptional)
- Contributory primary schools - refer to the Secondary Information for Parents booklet for a list of these schools
- Distance - using a straight line measurement
Allocation of places
- All 3 preferences are assessed equally
- If there are more applications than places then the oversubscription criteria is applied
- Decisions are made for each preference
- If a place can be offered at more than one preference then the highest ranked school will be offered
- The equal preference scheme means that you do not risk losing the offer of your 2nd or 3rd preference by not listing the school as your 1st preference.
Offer of a school place
- 1st March 2010 - a single offer of a school place is made
- A period of 2 weeks will be provided to accept the offer
- If you are happy with the decision no further action is needed
- If you are not happy with the decision you have the right to appeal against the decision. The School Choice Adviser may be able to provide you with further help regarding the appeals process.
- If you are refused a place at your preferred school your child's name will be placed on the waiting list
Waiting Lists
- Names are placed on the waiting list in accordance with the admission criteria
- A child's position on the waiting list is not fixed
- Community school waiting lists are held until the end of the Autumn term
- If you have lodged an appeal your name will still be placed on the waiting list for community schools
