Admissions Process
How to apply
- Decide how you want to apply - paper application or online
- Refer to the information booklet for guidance - this will enable you to see the admissions criteria for community schools, foundation and voluntary aided schools
- Complete all sections of the application form
- Provide any additional information requested - foundation and voluntary aided schools
- Return your form to your primary school or to the School Admissions Team.
Admissions criteria (community schools)
- Children in care
- Pupils living within the catchment area of the school
- Pupils with siblings in attendance at the school
- Medical/social reasons (exceptional)
- Contributory primary schools (refer to information booklet)
- Distance
Allocation of places
- All 3 preferences are assessed equally
- If there are more applications than places then the oversubscription criteria is applied
- Decisions are made for each preference
- If a place can be offered at more than one preference then the highest rank school will be offered
Offer of a school place
- 2nd March 2009 _ a single offer of a school place is made
- If you are happy with the decision no further action is needed
- If you are not happy with the decision you have the right to appeal against the decision
- If you are refused a place at your preferred school your child's name will be placed on the waiting list
Waiting Lists
- Names are placed on the waiting list in accordance with the admission criteria
- A child's position on the waiting list is not fixed
- Community school waiting lists are held until the end of the 1st week of the new academic year
- If you have lodged an appeal your name will still be placed on the waiting list for community schools
