Free Home to School Transport
Families of secondary school age children who are in receipt of free school meals or registered for free school meals may be able to get help with the cost of home to school transport.
Alternatively if you are in receipt of the maximum level of Working Tax Credit you may also be entitled to help.
If you are in receipt of any of the following welfare benefits or allowances you could claim free school meals for your child. Even if you don't want your child to have the meals it may still be worth registering. Your child's school would also receive more funding if you were eligible and registered for the meals.
Income Support
Income Based JobSeekers Allowance
Income RElated Employment and Support Allowance
Child Tax Credit but not Working Tax Credit and the household income is not more than £16,190
the guarantee element of State Pension Credit
Support under part V1 of the Immigration and Asylum Act 1999

Once it has been determined that your child is registered for Free School Meals or that you receive the maximum level of Working Tax Credit your additional right for free home to school transport can be assessed.
Children can receive free transport to either-
One of the three closest schools, where the school lies between 2 and 6 miles from home
or
The closest school chosen on the basis of faith or philosphical belief, where the school lies between 2 and 15 miles from home
