FAQs - Nursery Admissions
When can my child start at a nursery?
Designated nursery classes within Primary, Infant and First schools admit children at a single point of entry in the September of the year in which they become four. Places are available on a part time basis for either morning or afternoon sessions. From September 2009 some settings will be providing increased entitlement and enhanced flexibility to pupils who are offered places following the admissions process.
How do I apply?
If you wish to make an application for your child you should contact the relevant establishment directly or the School Admissions Service to obtain an application form. For admissions in September 2009, application forms will be available from mid January 2009 onwards.
When should I apply?
For children born between 1st September, 2005 and 31st August, 2006, the closing date for applications is 31st March 2009 for admission at the start of the term in September, 2009.
Applications received after this date will only be considered for a nursery/foundation class where places remain available or if exceptional reasons stopped you from applying before the closing date.
Can I choose more than one school?
The application form will allow you to make two preferences.
What is the admission criteria?
The admission criteria sets out how places will be allocated if there are more applications than there are places available. The full admission criteria is available from the link on the left hand side of this screen.
When will I know the outcome of my application?
You will receive a response to your application for a place in a nursery age setting by 15 May, 2009 at the latest.
If my application is unsuccessful, what can I do?
If it is not possible to offer a place at either of your preferred nursery age settings waiting lists will be maintained until the end of the first week of term in September. Places on the waiting list are kept in admission criteria order, should places become available they will be offered in accordance with this list.
You can also contact the admissions team who will be able to provide you with information of nursery age settings that have places available. In addition you can also contact Parent Direct for details of private or independent providers in your area.
Is my child guaranteed a place in the school if he/she attends the nursery?
A place in a nursery class does not give any priority for admission into Reception. Places are allocated in strict accordance with the admissions criteria for primary schools in Staffordshire.
