Mid Term Admissions

Mid Term Admissions

If you have moved into the area and require a school place for your child you can view the name of your catchment area school by following this link.

Please note that there is no guaranteed admission to your catchment area school and allocations will be dependent on the availability of spaces in the relevant year group.

Catchment areas are also subject to review and may alter.

Lists of schools by area can be accessed by following this link.

The process for obtaining a place at a new school where you have changed address mid year is as follows:

1. You should firstly approach your preferred school to enquire about the availability of places.

2. If the school concerned is able to accommodate your child then the school will confirm your child's admission arrangements with you and you may deal with the school direct.

3. If your preferred school is unable to accommodate your child then you may make a formal application for a place using the form on the right hand side of this page "mid year admissions form"**. You should complete Sections 1 and 2 and return the form to your preferred school so that they may complete Section 3 and return the form to the School Admissions and Transport Service who will then write and inform you of the outcome of your request.

** If you are applying for admission to a Voluntary Aided or Foundation School please write a letter of application to the Governing Body of the school concerned.

4. Parents who are refused admission to their preferred school are provided with a right of appeal to an independent panel.

Transfer Between Schools
The first step in the transfer process is to speak with your child's current headteacher about your plans.

Where (after discussion with your child's current headteacher) you wish to transfer your child between schools mid year and there has not been a change of address,  you will need to complete the mid term admission application form on the right hand side of this page.

You should complete Sections 1 and 2 and return the form to your preferred school so that they may complete Section 3 and return to the School Admissions and Transport Service who will then write and inform you of the outcome of your request.

Parents who are refused admission to their preferred school are provided with a right of appeal to an independent panel.

Parents of children attending special schools are asked to contact their statementing officer if a change of school is required.

Please be aware that if your child has a travel pass to their current school the pass will need to be returned should they start attending a different school.

Vulnerable Children

Some vulnerable children may find it difficult to secure a place in a school and can in some cases remain out of school for unreasonably long periods.

The Local Authority has a Hard to Place Protocol to assist in these cases. Please see document to the right of this page.
