Admission Appeals

The DCSF have produced a guide to school admissions and appeals, to view the information please open the document below:

If it is not possible to agree your preference for a Staffordshire school and you are dissatisfied with the school place offered to your child you may wish to lodge a formal appeal against this decision to an Independent Appeals Panel.

The decision of an Appeals Panel is final and binding on all parties concerned.

Appeals forms are issued on request for Community Schools when the Local Authority has had to refuse admission. If you wish to receive information about the appeals process please contact 01785 278593 or download a copy of the appeal form and associated guidance.

There are two types of appeals for primary admissions.  If you are appealing as you have been refused a school place due to class size legislation (i.e. a key stage one class can not have more than 30 pupils) you will need to download and complete the class size appeal form and read the guidance notes for class size appeals as there are only limited grounds on which you can appeal.  Otherwise download and use the standard appeal form.

If you are unsure as to which form to use please contact the School Admissions and Transport Service on 01785 278593.

Appeals for admission to Staffordshire secondary and primary schools for the September intake are generally held during term-time during the summer term preceeding admission.

Under the Education Standards and Framework Act 1998, an admissions authority can refuse to admit a child to a school if the limit of 30 pupils, in a Key Stage 1 class, has been reached and the admission of further pupils could cause 'class size prejudice'.

Information on the appeal procedure followed by the Governing Bodies of Voluntary Aided and Foundation schools can be obtained directly from the school.  Further advice may also be obtained from the relevant Diocese office:-

Lichfield Diocesan Board of Education for Church of England Schools

Birmingham Diocesan Schools Commission for Catholic Schools.
