Renewal of Marriage Vows

A vow renewal ceremony is ideal for any married couple who wish to celebrate renewing their marriage vows in a personal ceremony.

These ceremonies are often associated with a special wedding anniversary but are equally appropriate for a couple at any point in their marriage and often couples see then as a means of reinforcing their commitment to each other after they have been through a difficult period which has put a strain on their relationship.

Many couples who married abroad use a vow renewal ceremony as a means of sharing the occasion of their marriage with friends and family who were not able to attend the wedding ceremony itself.

Any married couple, of any age and who have been married for any length of time can arrange to have a vow renewal ceremony. It does not matter if you do not live in the area where you want to have your ceremony. A vow renewal ceremony is a dignified event that allows the couple to:

  • Renew their marriage vows;
  • Re-dedicate or give new rings to each other;
  • Reinforce their commitment to each other.

The vow renewal ceremony

The ceremony can be as individual as the couple taking part and no two ceremonies will ever be the same.

You will be able to choose what you want the ceremony to contain and will be creating a unique event for you and your guests to remember. You should take time to consider the options available to you and which ones you feel are appropriate and will have meaning for you.

Other people can take part in your ceremony.  These could be any children that you have, friends and family or people who were at your wedding. You will also need to make sure that there are two people who can act as witnesses to the event and the signing of the certificate.

A celebrant will conduct your ceremony but will not be acting in any official capacity (even if they are also a Registrar). Celebrants are trained and experienced in conducting many different ceremonies and can provide advice and guidance on anything that you are unsure of.
