Ceremonies in Special Circumstances
Under special circumstances, a ceremony can take place in an unlicensed venue such as a hospital, hospice, prison or the home of a person who is ill. There are however, other criteria that have to be met before this is allowed.
A Registrar General's Licence allows the marriage or civil partnership of a terminally ill person to take place at any time or in any location. This can be a religious marriage ceremony, but for Church of England ceremonies speak to your local clergyman about an Archbishop of Canterbury's Special Licence.
For a person who is housebound through illness or a person who has been detained and is likely to be so for three months or more, and who cannot attend a place where ceremonies are normally conducted, special arrangements can be made.
