Gender Equality Scheme
From April 2007 the general duty amends the Sex Discrimination Act to place a statutory duty on all public authorities, when carrying out functions, to have due regard to the need:
- To eliminate discrimination and harassment that is unlawful under the Sex Discrimination Act 1975 (SDA) and discrimination that is unlawful under the Equal Pay Act 1970 (EqPA)
- To promote equality of opportunity between men and women
The purpose of this document is to:
- Publish this Gender Equality Scheme to demonstrate how we intend to fulfill the General and Specific Duties.
- Show how we will involve women, men and Trans people in the development of the scheme.
- The scheme includes a statement of:
- how we intend to involve women, men and trans people in the development of the scheme
- our methods for Impact Assessment
- steps which we will take towards fulfilling the General Duty (the action plan)
- We will within three years of the scheme being published, take the steps set out in our action plans (unless it is unreasonable or impractical for individual organisations to do so) and put into effect arrangements for gathering and making use of information.
- We will publish a report containing a summary of the steps taken under our action plans, the results of our information gathering and the use to which we have put the information.
