Underage Sales

Help us stamp out illegal sales to children. Did you know...

Under 18's Prohibited Tobacco:
250,000 youngsters illegally buy 17 million cigarettes per week - every hour 14 deaths are caused by smoking.
Under 18's Prohibited Alcohol:
1 in 6 boys and 1 in 8 girls under 16 drink alcohol at least once a week.
Under 16's Prohibited National Lottery/Instants:
It is an offence to supply National Lottery tickets and Instants scratchcards to persons under 16.
Under 18's Prohibited Solvents/Cigarette Lighter Refills:
Between 1971 and 1995, 1,520 deaths were caused by substance abuse - 70% of those who died were children.
Under 16's Prohibited Petrol & Petroleum Spirits:
Petrol is an explosive substance. Petrol vapour has acute and chronic effects if inhaled.
Under 18's Prohibited Fireworks:
In 1997, 908 people required hospital treatment for firework injuries almost half of those were children under 15.

Videos & Computer Software:

Horrific offences committed by children have been linked to inappropriate video films and computer software.


Illegal sales of cigarettes, alcohol and other products cause harm to children and problems in the community where they live. We can all help to protect children and prevent these problems. If you know where such illegal sales to children are taking place, please contact the Police, or Trading Standards at the address below.
