Pet Travel Scheme
This pilot scheme came into effect in February 2000 and enables you to take your pet dog or cat to certain countries in Europe and bring it back into the UK without quarantine.
The countries your pet may travel to are:
- Andorra
- Austria
- Belgium
- Denmark
- Finland
- France
- Germany
- Gibralter
- Greece
- Iceland
- Italy
- Liechtenstein
- Luxembourg
- Monaco
- Netherlands
- Norway
- Portugal
- San Marino
- Spain
- Sweden
- Switzerland
- Vatican
Some of these countries require a separate health certificate so that your pet can enter that country - contact your local MAFF Animal Health Office for advice.
You may now take your pet abroad with you and enter/re-enter the UK if:
- Entry into the UK is via routes approved by MAFF
- Your pet has not been out of the countries listed in the scheme
- Your pet can be identified by a micro-chip
- Your pet has been vaccinated for rabies
- Your pet has been blood tested and shows adequate protection against rabies 6 months prior to entering/re-entering the UK and is accompanied by all relevant documentation.
