What is Community Safety?
The County Council believes that Community Safety extends beyond Crime and Disorder, and has defined it as follows:
"Community Safety is an aspect of quality of life that affects people, communities and organisations. People need to feel safe and this means developing stronger, confident and more cohesive communities. Community Safety includes reducing crime and disorder and tackling anti-social behaviour, domestic violence, drug and alcohol abuse and promoting fire and road safety and public protection."
The County Council works closely with a wide variety of partner organisations such as Staffordshire Police, Fire and Rescue Service and the district and borough based Community Safety Partnerships to support the creation of stronger communities within Staffordshire and to enhance Community Safety across the county.
Key Community Safety partners across Staffordshire have produced a Domestic Abuse Strategy for Staffordshire entitled “Breaking the Cycle”. The purpose of the document is to set out what Staffordshire intends to do over the next four years, 2012-16, in order to “break the cycle” of domestic abuse within our communities. Domestic abuse can have a devastating impact upon both the victim and their family and it also affects the wider community. It is an issue for both women and men from all walks of life.
