Safety Advisory Group

Staffordshire County Council's Safety of Sports Grounds Team coordinates and chairs a Safety Advisory Group (SAG) for each certified venue in the county.

In words of Lord Taylor, the author of the "Final report into the Hillsborough Stadium Disaster", the Safety Advisory Group "exists primarily to provide specialist advice to the local authority so that it may effectively discharge its functions under the 1975/1987 Acts, it also provides a vital forum to develop a corporate approach to spectator safety."

Apart from the appropriate members of local authority a Safety Advisory Group should  include representatives of the police, fire service, ambulance service, building control as well as the Safety Certificate Holder or other representantives of the ground management including the Safety Officer.
