Food Standards

Trading Standards provide business advice on the legal requirements for the composition, labelling and packaging of food.

The Business Support Team deliver the service by visiting businesses throughout the food chain, carrying out audits and providing business support.

Support can include, as appropriate:

Provision of general advice via ERWIN and Food Standards Agency Publications
Visits to businesses to discuss the nature of the regulatory requirements applying to the business
Assessment of food labels prior to print to reduce unnecessary costs of label reprints.
Submitting samples for analysis to the Public Analyst who check on the composition of the food.
Providing Certificates for business who are found to be compliant with legislation during a visit.
Referral of the business to their local Environmental Health Service for advice on food hygiene and safety.

The Business Support Team can also provide businesses with advice on current healthy eating initiatives e.g. Food Standards Agency Salt Reduction targets and carries out surveillance surveys on the composition and labelling of foods.
