Social, Environmental and Sustainable Procurement
As a large purchaser of goods and services, the County Council has a key role to play in promoting environmental sustainability through its procurement activities, both through how and what it purchases and through its ability to encourage and influence its providers regarding environmental issues.
As there is no such thing as a universally accepted definition of the term "environmentally friendly"; many claims made by less scrupulous providers may prove to be untrue. Purchasers should be wary of unsubstantiated claims and environmental labels which have no formal recognition.
Staffordshire Procurement is charged with delivering social and environmentally sustainable friendly contracts. All Staffordshire Procurement contract items that have been evaluated and proven to be environmentally friendly will have their environmental credentials highlighted within their description. Customers can purchase these products with confidence, knowing that their procurement makes a positive contribution towards social inclusion, secures improvements to the environment and minimises any adverse environmental impact.
By adopting a more open, co-operative approach, both Staffordshire Procurement and their providers can work in partnership to improve their environmental performance.
