Economic Research
The Development Services Directorate includes the Research Business Unit which provides the County Council and external partners with information to understand the changing economic trends and issues affecting Staffordshire.
Activities include the identification of opportunities to access important UK and European funding programmes. Policy guidance is provided in key areas of strategic planning, transportation and corporate activity.
The unit is responsible for information databases and systems support. This work also involves sustaining and establishing a broad range of partnerships with other local authorities, regional bodies, Government departments, European institutions, research and academic institutions as well as the private sector.
Research activity includes a major contribution to Regional Planning Guidance, the Structure Plan, support for bidding activities and the economic development strategy. A wide range of enquiries are dealt with, including assistance to new businesses and inward investors as well as other Council Departments.
