Economic Regeneration in Staffordshire
Tourism
Tourism is one of Staffordshire's most important growth industries, generating £616 million per annum from 20 million visits, and employing some 31,400 people in related sectors (7.5% of all employment within the county).
Staffordshire Tourism, based in the Economic Regeneration Business Unit within the Development Services Department operates to support and develop the tourism sector in Staffordshire. This is achieved through marketing and promotion, research and development, and Press and PR activity, as well as through the provision of specialist advice and information.
One of the most successful aspects of Staffordshire Tourism's work has been the development of partnership working to implement joint marketing initiatives aimed at raising the County's profile and creating new business. The Staffordshire Short Breaks Campaign, the County's flagship promotion, has proved particularly successful in this respect. Since its formation in 1992 this campaign has generated an average of 20,000 bookings per annum and a visitor spend in excess of £80 million from a promotional spend of just £2.3 million.
