Economic Regeneration in Staffordshire

Business Support

The economic regeneration unit at Staffordshire County Council works on a wide range of services aimed at assisting the business community, including:

  • tourism; marketing Staffordshire in the UK and overseas as a tourism destination for individuals, groups and conferences. The focal point of marketing activities is the annual Short Breaks Campaign which is now one of the leading campaigns of its kind in the country;
  • industrial development; the management of enterprise centres and industrial units and the development of new sites and premises throughout the county;
  • Staffordshire Business and Environment Network (SBEN); aims to encourage companies in Staffordshire to improve their environmental management performance, through advice, seminars, training courses and an environmental 'helpline'.

In addition to these services, the County Council also supports a range of external organsations involved in the economic development of the County. For these organisations, the County Council adopts a 'client' role. The principal organisations supported are:

Links to other business support agencies:-

  • Advantage West Midlands - one of nine Regional Development Agencies operating in England. Providing leadership and action to create more, better jobs and an enhanced quality of life for all in the West Midlands
  • Government Office for the West Midlands - improving the economic performance of the region; promoting the development of a skilled and adaptable workforce; improving the quality of life through partnerships and support to communities; providing quality intelligence to central government and communicating central government policies effectively in the region.
  • Small Business Community Forum - designed to help small businesses by enabling them to freely obtain and share information
  • Department of Trade & Industry (DTI) - working with business, employees and consumers to drive up UK productivity and competitiveness to deliver prosperity for all.

The County Council also works in partnership with the Staffordshire Police, and Staffordshire Fire and Rescue Service, which cover Staffordshire and Stoke-on-Trent. The services offered by the County Council provide the backbone of a healthy business environment.
