Catheter Care and Bowel Care Training

Specialist catheter and bowel care training for nursing and care staff, offered via face‑to‑face and Teams sessions with competency updates and practical demonstrations.

Catheter Care and Bowel Care Training are developed from Royal College Nursing guidance and focus on capacity, consent and professional standards. 

A focus on anatomy and the function of the systems looking at specific conditions etc. The assessment process, trouble shooting, common problems. 

In the Bowel Care training there is a section on medication whereas in the Catheter Care training the trainers look at equipment and formulary adherence. 

If you attend the training face to face, the procedures are demonstrated on models. For Teams sessions, the procedures are shown using video demonstrations.

TEAMs sessions are for staff who have previously achieved competencies  & require the updates only. 

Face to face sessions are for staff who wish to train F2F, or have never undertaken the procedures.

All course times are 9.30am to 4.30pm

Catheter Care Training 

This training is open to all Qualified Nurses & Trainee Nurse Associates, including Associate Practitioners, and Band 4 Community staff who complete routine catheterisations.  

Staff working with both residential and nursing care home patients are charged £30 per delegate and invoiced following attendance. 

The £30 per delegate charge will apply to all non-MPFT staff who complete the Catheter Care and Bowel Care training both from care homes, including residential, and other organisations.

Bowel Care training

This training is open to all Qualified Nurses & Trainee Nurse Associate’s and is suitable for staff who are new to the trust, updating and updating staff who have not attended the training since 2019 new guidance review 

Staff working with both residential and nursing care home patients are charged £30 per delegate and invoiced following attendance. 

The £30 per delegate charge will apply to all non-MPFT staff who complete the Catheter Care and Bowel Care training both from care homes, including residential, and other organisations.
