Carers’ Rights Day celebrated across Staffordshire

As part of a national campaign, carers across Staffordshire will be able to find out more about their rights thanks to an events being held across the county. Staffordshire County Council, North Staffs Carers' Association and Carer’s Association Southern Staffordshire are holding a number of events across the county to help carers find the support they're entitled to.

The event has been put on to celebrate Carers Rights Day, which takes place on 2 December.  This year the theme is finance, and events across the county will help show carers how they can access benefits and assessments, and get the support they’re entitled to.

County Councillor Matthew Ellis, Cabinet Member for Adults and Wellbeing, said:  “The theme of this year’s event is Caring about Equality - caring is at the very heart of families and communities and plays a crucial role both for individuals and wider society. Carers must be treated the same as everybody else and protected from any discrimination. In Staffordshire we are transforming the way we support carers and those receiving care. Choice and treating people as individuals is central to the way care is being reformed here.

“A key part of the event is helping carers to understand their rights in the first place. Agencies from across the care spectrum have come together to offer advice and guidance and it is my hope that people come along and see what help and information is available to them. One way of finding out what is available to carers is by visiting the Staffordshire Cares website, which has a whole host of information on the support available to them"

Details of events up and down the county can be found by going to www.staffordshirecares.info/carersrights2011| or calling Staffordshire Cares on 0300 111 8010.
