Representatives from another 18 Staffordshire schools will be celebrating next week as they receive a top national award for their efforts to become healthy.

Pupils and staff have worked closely with Staffordshire County Council and its local Primary Care Trusts to achieve National Healthy Schools Status, which promotes the link between physical and emotional well-being within the whole school community.

100% of Staffordshire's schools have signed up to this exciting national long-term initiative which is making a dramatic difference to the health and achievement of children and young people.  To date, over 200 of the county's schools have already successfully gained the status with the remainder working hard to achieve it.

The National Healthy Schools Programme recognises the achievement of schools in four areas across the whole school approach and is focused on four key themes: personal, social and health education (PSHE), healthy eating (and drinking), physical activity and emotional health and well-being (including bullying).

Deputy Leader County Councillor Robert Simpson said: "This is a wonderful achievement for everyone involved.  These schools have shown that they have invested in being healthy and are dedicated to ongoing improvement and development in this area, equipping pupils with the skills and attitudes to help them make informed decisions about their health. "

A special awards ceremony will take place on Tuesday 17th June at 2.30pm at County Buildings, Martin Street, Stafford.

Howard Thomas, Head of Environment for Stafford Borough Council will open the event and present awards to the Stafford schools; Her Majesty's Vice Lord Lieutenant of Staffordshire, Colonel Michael Beatty CBE TD DL will present to the rest of the schools and County Councillor and Deputy Leader Robert Simpson will be closing the event.
