Community Safety

What is Community Safety?

The County Council believes that Community Safety extends beyond Crime and Disorder, and has defined it as follows:

"Community Safety is an aspect of quality of life that affects people, communities and organisations.  People need to feel safe and this means developing stronger, confident and more cohesive communities.  Community Safety includes reducing crime and disorder and tackling anti-social behaviour, domestic violence, drug and alcohol abuse and promoting fire and road safety and public protection."

Community Safety Priorities in Staffordshire

Crime and Disorder Strategic Assessments conducted by the eight Community Safety Partnerships covering Staffordshire identified a number of common priorities to be addressed in their Partnership Plans.

These are:

  • Alcohol misuse;
  • Anti-Social Behaviour;
  • Domestic Violence;
  • Drugs misuse;
  • Road safety;
  • Violence

Multi Agency Public Protection Arrangements

MAPPA were introduced in 2001 and bring together the Police, Probation and Prison Services into what is known as the MAPPA Responsible Authority.

Each MAPPA area produces an annual report which details performance, statistics, future developments and MAPPA team contact details.

The aim of MAPPA is to ensure that a risk management plan drawn up for the most serious offenders benefits from the information, skills and resources provided by the individual agencies being co-ordinated through MAPPA.
